Fedora Core: nice improvement but not for me

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

I downloaded and installed Fedora Core 6 on my testing machine. During the install I tried to add some secondary repositories (a new install feature) and anaconda immediately bombed out on me. The second time around I went with all the defaults and it installed cleanly. After booting up I had the same issues with […]

Upgraded Kubuntu to Edgy without issue

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Well I upgraded my AMD64 workstation from Kubuntu Dapper to Edgy this weekend. I did it the old fashioned way. I simply went into /etc/apt/sources.list and changed all references of ‘dapper’ to ‘edgy’. Typed ‘apt-get update’ to refresh the package database and then did ‘apt-get dist-upgrade’ to upgrade the entire system. About 45 minutes later […]

Ghosts, Goblins and things that go bump in the night!

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Halloween is next Tuesday and the spirits will be restless as the kiddies go trick or treating in the neighborhood. To get you in the mood you can check some paranormal related podcasts. Some of my favorites are the Paranormal Podcast, Darkness on the Edge of Town and Taps Para Radio which are the […]

Flash 9 for Linux is pretty sweet!

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

I finally got around to installing the Flash 9 beta plugin on my systems this past weekend. I got it working under Firefox, Opera and Konqueror. It’s pretty sweet! While Windoze and Mac people have had Flash 8 the Linux people have been stuck at version 7 for some time now. While it hasn’t been […]

Upgrading firmware for Linksys WRT54G/GS routers

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS v1.1. I’ve had it for a few years now and it’s worked very well for me. Linksys was smart enough to use an embedded piece of hardware that’s running Linux. The firmware was released under the GPL and available for anyone to view or modify it. I’ve been reading […]

Maiden still rocks after all these years

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

I went to the Iron Maiden concert at the Continental arena in the swamps of New Jersey Friday night with a bunch of old friends from my Staten Island days. It was an amazing time on so many levels. First it was great hanging out with some of my old friends. Everyone is really […]

Many great guests on TLLTS

Friday, October 13th, 2006

Since Linc setup a wiki page for the show Gorkon added a past guests listing for the show. I went in and updated it to near completeness along with links to guest’s blog/homepage or project site. The list is quite impressive. We’ve spoken to many people in the F/OSS community. I was thinking we should […]

What I’m watching on TV

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

Well the season opener of Battlestar Galactica did not disappoint. What an amazing roller coaster of emotion! It totally kicked ass. Besides BSG what I am watching? I’ve gotten into 2 new shows. First up is Heroes. A bunch of ordinary people start developing extraordinary powers. Think of X-men meets The 4400. The first episode […]

The best show on television is

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

about to start it’s new season tommorow night on the Sci-Fi channel. Yes, I’m talking about Battlestar Galactica. It’s intelligent, dark and relates in many ways to our reality. While the special effects and action sequences are amazing the show’s real strengths are in it’s writing and acting. It blows away the cheesefest of […]

Columbus was a blast!! - Part 2

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

After Friday nights festivities we had to be at the Columbus Convention Center at 7:00 AM for setup. We get there and setup our table in between Aaron Newcomb and the nice people from Penguicon. The crowd starts rolling in around 8:00 AM and by 8:45 it’s pretty damn packed full of people. Last year […]
