Gutsy Gibbon forces my hand: Trying out Foresight and Arch Linux

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

So after upgrading to Gutsy on my “made by Chinese slave labor POS” laptop I was unable to boot into any of the new 2.6.22 kernels. I decided to do a clean install to insure “freshness”. Unfortunately, the results were much worse than the upgrade. I wasn’t even able to boot into the live CD […]

Getting into embedded Linux and having lots of choices

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I’ve been mulling over where I’d like to improve/grow my programming skills. I’ve decided I’d like to learn embedded Linux programming. To get things started I’m reading the following book:

Embedded Linux Primer by Christopher Hallinan. The book details the in and outs of working with embedded Linux devices and what the choices are for developing […]

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

It seems more and more websites are designed so you can’t read them. They generally have a black background and the words in some other very dark color. Basically, I can’t read them! Do I need a special decoder ring? Did I miss the meeting where they handed out the special viewing glasses? Am I […]

An open cell phone platform

Basically this whole I-bricking from Apple is a result of people seeing a cool device and wanting to create and install 3rd party applications. Apple is merely being Apple. They own the whole stack and control every single aspect of its use. As soon as people realize this and move on their lives will be […]

What can I say about the Ohio Linux Fest that hasn’t been said by everyone else? It was a great time! We got to meet and hang out with a lot of wonderful people in the community. It was fantastic catching up with old friends and acquainces and finally putting a face and voice with […]
